Impact: It is a major pest of tomatoes of great economic importance in all over the world and it also attacks other crop plants of the Solanaceae family, including potato, eggplant, pepper, and tobacco. In tomato, it attacks all plant parts and crop developmental stages, the larvae feed voraciously upon tomato plants, producing large galleries in leaves, burrowing in stalks, consuming apical buds, green and ripe fruits. The pest can cause up to 100 % crop destruction. It is characterized by high reproduction potential. Each female may lay up to 300 eggs and 10-12 generations can be produced each year. Therefore, trapping of adult male moths in the early stage of infestation would be an effective strategy for tomato leaf miner management.
